Riding For Riding’s Sake

A short ride on a fixed wheel, more-or-less just for the sake of it – to get out. I didn’t go far and I didn’t go with the frame of mind to notice anything or think anything. Tired and a bit stale from too much work in front of a computer, it was a case of needing to do something outside, and I’d nearly always go for a ride than a walk. A spin on a fixed-wheel makes a change too – and I like to think it’s good for the pedalling rhythm.

I have to be in the right mood for walking, and the right place. I can enjoy it on holiday sometimes, but by and large it’s just a touch too slow for my liking. Driving’s too fast and too isolated; bike riding is normally just about right. And when it comes to walking locally, to be faced with the overly familiar at walking pace is far more tedious than the same locale but on a bike.
